The Standards of Practice (SOP) for Professional Chaplains in Acute Care Settings are a significant advancement for the chaplaincy profession. With their completion, we join other health care professions(i.e. nursing, social work, interpreters, etc.) that have developed documents to provide direction for professional practice and a framework for the evaluation of practice. The standards describe the day-to-day work of professional hospital chaplains. Through lecture and discussion, this Webinar will look at a day in the life of a professional chaplain. Particular attention will be given to the practical implementation of each of the 13 standards in a variety of acute care settings.

If you are not familiar with the SOP, it is suggested that you take the opportunity to review the materials on the Standards of Practice Web page before attending this Webinar. The page includes the standards, a video of the 2010 SOP plenary session and articles.

When you purchase this webinar recording, you will receive a PDF file with links to access the audio MP3, as well as the presentation slides and materials.

Learning Objectives

1. Identify the SOP and describe why they are important.

2. Recognize the ways in which the SOP are implicitly present in the work we already do as
professional chaplains.

3. Identify and discuss concerns related to the implementation of the SOP.
