Victims-survivors will frequently turn first to professional chaplains and other spiritual leaders when seeking refuge from situations of domestic violence. Often times, however, these key individuals in the life of victims and survivors are ill-prepared to respond in an appropriate and effective manner. This 90-minute webinar will offer professional chaplains practical tools when faced with the global problem of domestic violence.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this 90-minute webinar participants will be able to:

1. Provide a working definition of domestic violence.

2. Discuss who is most likely to be abused and who is most likely to be abusive in adult heterosexual intimate partnerships and offer some of the similar and different challenges faced by victim-survivors who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender.

3. Demonstrate tactics offenders use on their victims to get what they want when they want it.

4. Separate commonly-held myths from facts.

5. Offer data on the effect domestic violence has upon children living in the home.

6. Articulate the vital aspects of collaborating with community service providers when dealing with victims-survivors and offenders.
