#GivingTuesdayNow: A Global Day of Unity and Giving

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

APC is asking our members and anyone who can participate in Giving Tuesday NOW to do so.  Below are some ways in which you can give back.

  • Help support a worthy cause - Every year APC features a charitable organization at our Annual Conference in order to raise money and awareness for the good work they do.  Below is a list of some of the organizations that APC has previously asked our chaplains to support, if you can support them again, we ask you to please consider it:
    • 2012 - WINGS, Palatine, IL - The mission of WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) Program, Inc. is to provide housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence. WINGS provides a pathway to independence for people whose lives have been disrupted by domestic violence. WINGS got its start as a non-profit housing agency. We provide emergency safe shelter and transitional housing for victims of domestic violence. We also help families who are in crisis meet basic needs for items such as food and clothing. WINGS has evolved over time, growing so that we are able to help a greater number of people.
    • 2014 - Caterina’s Club, Anaheim, CA -  Recently, Chef Bruno and his charity have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning and other programs for their continued work to help feed hungry children during the COVID-19 pandemic.  While Chef Bruno has expressed his concern over losing his White House Restaurant in Anaheim, CA, he has also said that the charity will continue as long as he can sustain it.  See the links below to learn more about this charity and how to donate.

    • 2015 - Green Hill Therapy, Louisville, KY - Green Hill Therapy is a nonprofit organization that integrates traditional physical and occupational therapy with the natural motion of specially trained horses to assist children with challenges such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida. The goal of Green Hill is to help kids reach their full potential through proven, playful interaction with skilled therapists and a giving horse buddy.
    • 2016 - The Mustard Seed of Florida, Orlando, FL - the Mustard Seed of Florida, is a non-profit organization that helps rebuild the lives of families and individuals who have suffered disaster or personal tragedy. They provide household furnishings and clothing, while being environmentally responsible to the community. The Mustard Seed vision is that the provision of basic household furniture may set the stage for individuals to achieve restored dignity and self-esteem, enabling them to move ahead and take control of their futures.
    • 2018 - Foster Care Auxiliary - Foster Care Auxiliary of Orange County, Anaheim, CA - is a small non-profit that started when a group of foster families got together more than 30 years ago to provide what we could to help foster children and foster/adoptive families in whatever way we could.  The success of our children and foster children speak to the success of our future!  Our board consists of social workers, former and current foster parents, adoptive parents and interested community members, along with others caring for our county's children from the foster care system. We serve over 100 families each month, we are proud to have made countless children and families from the foster care system lives just a little brighter through the services we provide.  
    • 2020 - Malachi House, Cleveland, OH - created out of a Christian sense of ministry, serves persons who are terminally ill, without regard to gender, race, religion or national origin and without cost to the resident or family. This Home ministers to individuals who need an available caregiver, who have limited or no financial resources and are in need of special home care in the final stages of life. Our trained staff and volunteers provide spiritual, emotional and physical support with the assistance of a hospice team.

This new day is organized by GivingTuesday, and is being held in addition to the annually scheduled GivingTuesday event that will still take place on December 1, 2020. In partnership with GivingTuesday’s global network of leaders, partners, communities and generous individuals, this event is set to spark an increase in grassroots generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

People can show their generosity in a variety of ways to participate in #GivingTuesdayNow–whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The movement is currently focused on opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection and kindness even while practicing physical distancing.

#GivingTuesdayNow is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together in unity–to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal.
