Joseph Perez M.Div., BCC is the Vice President for Mission & Ministry at Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen & Brownsville, TX. He joined the APC Board as the Chairperson of the BCCI® Commission on Certification after previously serving as the BCCI’s Coordinator of Education and Development. In addition, he has served on the Membership Committee as state membership chairs coordinator, and as South Texas state membership chair. Joe received the APC Outstanding Local Leadership Award in 2010. Endorsed by Baptist General Convention of Texas, he has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 1998.

Rev. Jon A. Overvold MDiv BCC
Executive Committee Member

Jon A. Overvold, MDiv, BCC is the Senior Director of Mission and Spiritual Care at NYU Langone Health in New York City. Rev. Overvold leads the growth and expansion of spiritual care across NYU Langone Health and ensures the alignment of the programs at campuses in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Prior to coming to NYU Langone, he was the Corporate Director of System Chaplaincy Services for Northwell Health on Long Island New York. Jon has served as New York State Representative for the APC and also as chair of the APC Quality Commission. He became a board certified chaplain in 1999 and has 28 years of experience in healthcare chaplaincy. Jon holds a BA in history from Pacific Lutheran University, and received his master of divinity from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jon is ordained and endorsed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Rev. Dr. Jeffery T. Garland DMin EdS BCC-PCHAC

The Reverend  Jeffery T. Garland DMin EdS BCC has been an active member with APC® since 1997 and a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 2002 and Palliative Care and Hospice Advanced Certified (PCHAC) in 2019. He is employed as a chaplain the VNA Health Group Barnabas Health Home and Hospice & Palliative Care Center in West Orange, New Jersey. Endorsed by The American Baptist Churches, USA, Garland is the assistant to the pastor at Berean Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. He received his doctorate of ministry from Drew University School of Theology, his master of divinity from New York Theological Seminary and his education specialist in marriage and family therapy degree from Seton Hall University. He has served APC in the roles of Membership Services Council member, Multi-Cultural Multi-Ethnic Committee Chair, APC Conference Planning Committee Spiritual Needs chair and Nominating Committee member.

The Reverend John Simon has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 2001. Endorsed by the Progressive National Baptist Convention, he is the director of Network Chaplaincy at Westchester Medical Center Health Network based in Valhalla, NY. In addition, he serves as senior pastor of The Historic Second Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie. He earned his master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School and master of theological studies degree with distinction from the Iliff School of Theology. He is a board certified New York State Department of Corrections Protestant Chaplain.

Jana Troutman-Miller MA BCC

Member of Quality in Chaplaincy Care Committee

Jana Troutman-Miller MA BCC serves as chaplain and Episcopal priest at Saint John’s on the Lake, a retirement community in Milwaukee, WI. Prior to Saint John’s, she had several years of experience in the areas of acute care, mom/babies, and mental health and addictions. Jana is a trained spiritual director and is on the teaching faculty of the Haden Institute for Spiritual Direction in Ontario, Canada. BCCI® board certified since 2004, Jana has served the chaplaincy profession in a variety of different areas including secretary of the Wisconsin Chaplaincy Association, APC® Wisconsin state advocacy chair, member of the BCCI Commission on Certification, and co-chair of the Integrated Standards of Practice Task Force.  While serving on the Board of Directors for APC, she has been the chair of the Professional Ethics Committee, is on the Quality Committee, and is the current chair of the BCCI Commission on Certification.

Rev. Joby Brown MDiv BCC 

Rev. Joby Brown is a Staff Chaplain with Ascension Wisconsin, currently serving at Wheaton Franciscan Elmbrook Memorial and Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee hospitals in Milwaukee. He received his Master of Divinity Degree (MDiv) from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Religion and Philosophy from Eureka College in Eureka, IL. He is endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and has chaplaincy experience in acute care, memory care, long-term care, geriatrics, and behavior health. Prior to joining the APC Board of Directors, he served as a member of the Long-Term Care Standards of Practice Revision Work Group, and has served on local peer review and certification committees.

Rabbi Jodie Futornick DBe MA BCC

 
Rabbi Jodie Futornick, DBe,MA, BCC is an acute care staff chaplain at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle Washington, with specialization in bioethics. She has been a BCCI certified chaplain since 2007. Jodie received her Rabbinical Ordination and Master of Arts from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1989, and an additional MA in Bioethics from Loyola of Chicago in 2011. She recently completed a Doctor of Bioethics degree (D.Be.), also from Loyola. She is endorsed by the Rabbinical Assembly of Judaism’s Conservative movement. Jodie has served APC in a variety of volunteer roles, including State Representative and Continuing Education Chairs in IL, Certification Chair of Area 5, Education Committee, Chair of 2012 annual conference Workshop Committee, Membership Committee, and most recently, chair of the Bioethics Standards of Practice Task Force.

Rev. Amy Karriker MDiv BCC


Rev. Karriker is the Director of Chaplaincy Services at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, NY. She holds a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  Karriker is BCCI board certified since 2001 and is ordained and endorsed through the United Church of Christ. She has been very active with APC serving in many roles, as a Development Committee member, Chair of 2010 Annual APC Conference, Area 1 Certification chair, facilitator of the Pediatric Special Interest Group, and Membership Committee chair.

Rev. Renato Santos DMin, MDiv, BCC, LMHC

Rev. Renato O. Santos serves as the Assistant Vice-President for Pastoral Care Services and oversees spiritual care programming and mission integration for Baptist Health South Florida, Miami, FL.  He has been in a number of leadership roles since joining Baptist Health in 1995.  Rev. Santos holds a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is endorsed for chaplaincy and pastoral counseling through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Rev. Santos has been BCCi® board certified since 1998 and is a licensed psychotherapist through the State of Florida.   He has also served APC® as chair for the Multi-Cultural Multi-Ethnic Committee.  Rev. Santos has previously served in the board of directors for the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and as a chaplain with the United States Army Reserve.

Rev. Mark LaRocca-Pitts PhD BCC

Mark LaRocca-Pitts served as a professional chaplain for nearly 20 years in community outreach, acute care, and hospice settings. He currently serves as Pastor in Charge at a United Methodist Church outside of Atlanta, GA and has a part-time PRN chaplain position at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.  He has been BCCI® board certified since 2006 and is ordained by the United Methodist Church. He has served in various leadership roles with APC®, including state representative of Georgia, chair of the History Committee, chair of the Communications Committee, on the Quality in Chaplaincy Care Committee, and on the task forces for Standards of Practice in Acute Care, in Long-Term Care, and the Integrated Standards of Practice. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for APC. Mark received his BA and MA in Religious Studies from Indiana University, his MDiv from Harvard Divinity School, and his PhD from Harvard University. He is past president of the Georgia Society for Healthcare Chaplains and founder/host of Death Café Atlanta.

Rev. Jeffery N. Murphy MDiv BCC

The Reverend Jeffery N. Murphy MDiv BCC has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 1993. He served as a staff chaplain at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS from 2003 until 2019. Currently he serves as chaplain at Tyson Foods, Carthage, MS Complex.  Endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he holds a bachelor of arts from William Carey College and a master of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the board, Murphy served APC as state representative for Mississippi, the national coordinator of state representatives and BCCI certification chair for Area 8. He was also the founding president of the Mississippi Chaplains Association.

Rev. Inetta Reddell MBE MACS MDiv BCC


Rev. Inetta Reddell has been a Board Certified Chaplain since 2013 and is endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She has served on several boards including the Board of Directors for Kairos International Prison and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors at Deerfield, Riverwood, and Bannockburn (DBR) as well as served on their Executive Board of Directors. Inetta has a MDiv and MBE (Masters of Bioethics) and Masters of Christian Studies with emphasis in Pastoral Counseling and was ordained at Second Baptist Church. She is currently working at UMC (University Medical Center) Health System in Lubbock, TX since 2013. Inetta also currently serves as senior pastor for First United Methodist Church of Sudan. Prior to serving on the APC Board of Directors, Inetta was APCState Representative for North Texas State.

Douglas Stewart MDiv BCC MSME


Douglas Stewart MDiv BCC MSME is the Chief Chaplain of Memorial Regional Health System (MRHS) in Belleville, Illinois. MRHS is a part of BJC Health of St. Louis, Missouri. Rev. Stewart has served as Chief Chaplain since 2016. He also has responsibilities for Community Benefit and Ethics. 
Prior to his current position, Rev. Stewart was Director of Innovation and Lean at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where he developed the lean initiatives, quality improvement and Spiritual Care Services for the hospital and Southern Illinois Region of HSHS. Rev. Stewart was on the St. Elizabeth’s hospital administrative team as well. Rev. Stewart has served 12 years as an adjunct faculty in Philosophy at Southwestern Illinois College teaching Philosophy, Ethics and developed a bioethics program.  He has a Master’s in Divinity, a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in fracture mechanics from Southern Methodist University, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Rev. Stewart is an ordained Elder in the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and is endorsed by the United Methodist Higher Education as a chaplain. He has been married for 27 years and has two children. In his free time, Rev. Stewart has served in scouting at the local, council, and national level, his local church, and enjoys ham radio and cycling.

Patricia F. Appelhans JD

Chief Executive Officer

Patricia F. Appelhans JD is the CEO of the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC).   Pat has been with APC since 2009. As CEO of APC, Pat works closely with APC leadership teams, its pastoral cognate groups, as well as organizational leaders in allied health and human services organizations. Prior to serving as CEO of APC, Pat was director at SmithBucklin Corporation, an association management company serving as executive director to several non profits.  Pat has many years experience as a non profit professional serving in trade, professional and service organizations.  Pat is also a licensed attorney and served as counsel for several non profits. Pat has been an active volunteer in other non profits such as Association Forum and served as their Chairman of the Board.  Pat was the recipient of the John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award from Association Forum. She was also Chairman of the Greater Chicago Girl Scout Alliance and Rotarian of the Year at the Elgin Rotary International Club.  Pat currently serves as secretary of COMISS and on the National Advisory Board of CSU Institute for Palliative Care. Pat earned her B.A. from University of Illinois Chicago and her J.D. from Northern Illinois University. She is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois.
