2017 APC Annual Conference Registration is Open

by Rev. Brian P. Hughes, MDiv MS BCC
APC™ Forum, February 2017, Vol. 19 No. 1

Registration is now open for the 2017 APC™ Annual Conference, The Powerful Voice of Chaplaincy, taking place in beautiful Houston, TX.  This year’s conference location features a brand new “Super Bowl” downtown hotel that even has a Texas-shaped lazy river! The conference will bring tangible take home resources, networking with colleagues from around the world and exciting opportunities to learn and grow.

The 2017 APC™
Conference focuses on three things: 1) Empowering Leadership – where we can hone our voice of influence; 2) Championing Diversity – where we can assert our roles as cultural experts; and, 3) Claiming our Story – where we seek to unite our distinct contributions.

Our plenary speakers will each focus on one of the three emphases for the conference – leadership, diversity, and claiming our story. Our opening night features TED Talks from Al Miles, Brent Peery, and Marilyn Barnes, followed by Dr. Beth Lown from the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare who will speak on Friday. Saturday, our plenary panel highlighting vulnerable populations within our care includes Dr. Robyn Henderson Espinosa, Micky ScottBey Jones and Ali Candir. Finally, Michael Margolis from Get Storied will speak about how chaplains can use our own stories and experiences for transformation. This is a strong and diverse lineup of speakers that will inspire, challenge and equip us in our roles as board certified chaplains.

As you explore the exciting educational opportunities available at the conference, we hope you will see the opportunity to tailor your experience to enhance your work and professional interests. There are many workshops offered this year covering a diverse range of topics that focus on essential knowledge and emerging trends in the art and business of chaplaincy care. The PDI’s will offer an in-depth focus on a particular topic and are well worth your time prior to or following the main conference itinerary.

As you plan your registration, we hope you will consider making the most of your time in Texas and find time to connect with friends and colleagues as well as taking in some of the local sites.

There is much to do and much to learn.  We hope to see you there and together empower one another’s professional voices.
