A Message from APC President...

APC President Rev.Dr. Jeffery T. Garland DMin EdS BCC-PCHAC

APC Forum, April 2022, Vol. 24 No. 2

Members, next month many of us will again be meeting virtually for the ACPE/APC Joint Conference: Freedom, Wonder and Liberation: Anti-Bias practices of Spritual Care and Education.  While I know that we would prefer to meet in person to share our stories and spread coleagality, I know that each of us attending this year’s conference will take away something valuable from the workshops, plenaries, meetings, and networking.

There is a lot to look forward to right now.  For many of us spring has finally arrived and with it new life and new hope blooms.  The air feels fresher, energies seem rejuvinated and new prospects and opportunites seem to be on the horizons.  At APC we are also preparing for a new era as we make plans to switch over to a new website, membership database and an online application system for certifying chaplains. The APC Board is also taking our first steps to creating our next Strategic Plan for the organization.

The upgrades to our online/digital presence will be the most immediate of these projects but the strategic plan will be the most important.  APC has been in a holding pattern for several years as we explored the opportunity to merge with ACPE.  Now that we have decided to move forward as APC and BCCI we are eager to get back to the fundamentals of what makes APC meaningful to our members and to the profession of chaplaincy.

Currently we are creating subgroups to focus on individual aspects of the organization.  Our groups are focused on: Professional Advocacy, Strategic Partnerships, Membership Services, Certification, and Anti-racism.  In the coming weeks you may be asked to join one of these sub-groups to help the board map out priorities for APC.  I hope if asked, you will consider volunteering to help us and your professional organization as we seek to prepare APC for the next era and beyond.
