A Message from APC President...
by Joseph Perez MDiv BCC

Dear APC Friends and Colleagues,

We continue to journey through life in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, social unrest and injustice, and the stressors of our individual lives.  In addition to society's chaos, we still have lives to live, work to do, bills to pay, and care to give to family, friends and neighbors.  As in coping with the different seasons of our personal lives, we may feel overwhelmed and wonder what to do with the present "mess" we find ourselves in....Read More

BCCI News & Updates

Certification Interviews – APC has recently completed 82 Chaplaincy Certification Interviews via virtual/remote service.  These certification committee meetings were previously scheduled to take place in regional locations but were postponed and rescheduled to take place online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  Initial feedback from these interviews has been largely positive and APC staff will be reviewing candidate and committee feedback to refine the process going forward.

Certification Applications – APC has to-date received more than 260 applications for certification for the July 31 ,2020 deadline.  Due to delays in the U.S. postal service we are expecting more applications that have been post-dated prior to the application deadline.  We ask for patience as our team reviews each of these applications.

Newly Certified Celebration – Early in July, APC sent newly certified chaplains their certificates along with an invitation to participate in a virtual celebration to be held as part of the APC Annual Membership Meeting.  Unfortunately, due to delays in the postage service, many of these certificates did not arrive until just recently and some may still be on their way to them.  Good News – There is still time to send us your photos. Healing America
by Rev. Inetta Reddell MBE MACS MDiv BCC

When I reflect on all the turmoil and defacing of historical monuments, I cannot say I agree with eradicating history. Destroying Confederate statues is not respectable to America's history, as is destroying Black American monuments such as Dr. Martin Luther King statues claiming the same argument. Some of the American history content is difficult to read, and I can only imagine for many it invokes painful scars.  Nevertheless, history must remain intact because when a story gets retold, it does not have the same reliance.

I believe a start to healing in America is how we, as people, stop looking backward and look forward to and deal with the growing hatred in America. Not only for "Black Lives Matter," however, for the LGBTQ community, and the bullied child at school, for women who want to advance in Corporate America, and the list also goes on.

It would be very irresponsible of me if I did not convey what indeed spurred me to author this article. My prayer is that as you engage with the material that it resonates in ways that cause change and evokes you to some form of peaceful, productive action.

We are currently going through a global pandemic....Read More

APC Adds New Member Benefits

Dear Members,

APC recently added the Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling to our expanding list of member benefits but our new partnership with The Journal of Pastoral Care Publications (JPCP) brings you access to more than just that journal.  JPCP has been advancing theory and professional practice in our field through scholarly and reflective publications for over 25 years and as has also made excellent digital publications, especially blog posts and podcasts, now all available to APC members as part of your membership.

The Journal of Pastoral Care Publications, and their partners the World Council of Churches (WCC), and the Interfaith Health Program of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health (IHP) are encouraging the Association of Professional Chaplains’ members to contribute to, or just learn from, the new JPCP, WCC & IHP initiative featured on the JPCP website...Read More
