To provide an introduction and brief overview of some of the best research in chaplaincy published in the previous year to make current, excellent research more accessible to professional chaplains.

In 90 minutes participants will hear a summation of roughly 20 of the best articles whose topics are relevant to the work of professional chaplains.

Learning Objectives

1. The goal of this workshop is to present excellent research articles that relate to the practice of chaplaincy while encouraging chaplains to engage current research to sustain and foster excellence in clinical practice
2. This workshop will present a survey of the best research related to chaplaincy that was published in the previous calendar year
3. An overview of each articles thesis, methodology and findings will be presented

Presenters

Brian Hughes MDiv BCC, is a passionate chaplain advocate and consultant. He has worked clinically in New York, Texas, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, and served in leadership positions within the Association of Professional Chaplains. He has contributed to the writing of recent HCCN White Papers including Spiritual Care and Nursing: A Nurse's Contribution and Practice and Spiritual Care: What it Means, Why it Matters in Health Care. Brian also coordinates and presents the annual "Best Chaplaincy Papers" webinar each spring. He lives in Dallas, Texas, with his wife and two elementary-school-aged children.
Matt Norvell MDiv MS BCC NCC, is the pediatric staff chaplain for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is endorsed by the Alliance of Baptists and has been a member of the APC since 2013.
Emilee Walker-Cornetta MDiv BCC, is a perinatal, neonatal and pediatric chaplain at the Columbia University Medical Center campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. She is a member of the Episcopal Church.
Sarah Byrne-Martelli BCC, is a chaplain at Massachusetts General Hospital and serves on the APC/BCCI Board Certification Commission. She has been Board Certified since 2004 and is endorsed by the Antiochian Orthodox Church. She is a Doctor of Ministry student at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary.
Geila Rajaee BCC, is currently a Transforming Chaplaincy Fellow and is completing her studies in Public Health (Health Behavior Health Education) and Public Policy at the University of Michigan. Her background includes work as a clinical chaplain a manager of mid-sized chaplaincy department in the midwest. She hopes to continue her work in chaplaincy research in her next professional role by examining the links between chaplaincy care and persistent super-utilizers of healthcare services.
