The journey towards patient satisfaction has included since the beginning a focus on addressing the spiritual and emotional needs of patients. Many healthcare organizations focus on things done to or for the patient as "the key to success". As patient advocates, chaplains stand in the gap of giving a voice to the patients while being accountable to the organizational goals and accountability of the institutions they work for. Can we provide a stabilizing influence that brings together the two points of view by focusing on a total spiritual experience, rather than just interventions?

Learning Objectives
- To highlight the role of the chaplains in assisting to close the gap between the patient's perceptions of spiritual needs and the perceptions of caregivers in relation to their spiritual needs.
- To provide practical tools that will assist in the delivery of a spiritual experience.
- To encourage collaborative work between members of the care team in identifying, and addressing the spiritual needs of patients.
