This workshop will equip hospice Chaplains to attain a high level of quality of spiritual care delivery by identifying and documenting spiritual concerns, goals/expected outcomes, and pastoral care interventions as they relate to their clients. Clients will benefit in the following ways: Clients will guide the process; Chaplains will follow the Client's lead and provide a focused spiritual care; the hospice will benefit with increased Patient Satisfaction.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this 90-minute webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Explain how Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy forms a strong philosophical foundation for hospice chaplaincy.
2. Explain how qualitative improvement will meet Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requirements using a PDIA Quality Improvement Model.
3. Illustrate how the Spiritual Care Algorithms provide a mechanism to achieve best practice in spiritual care and clinical chaplaincy.


Presenter

Dr. Richard Behers DMin BCC CFHPC, is the Spiritual Care Program Manager with Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care. He is credentialed as a Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains and a Clinical Fellow in Hospice and Palliative Care by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy. While at Cornerstone Hospice, he spearheaded accreditation for the hospice with the National Institute for Jewish Hospice; is a facilitator of a support group for caregivers with the Alzheimer's Association; and spoken on a number of hospice-oriented topics throughout the 7 county region covered by Cornerstone Hospice. He developed a strategy for communicating with dementia patients which he is teaching to both clinical and non-clinical staff at Cornerstone Hospice. His influence and teaching on the subject extends to both national and international audiences. His passion is providing excellence in patient and family care. He supervises a team of 18 Chaplains in the 7 county service areas for Cornerstone Hospice.
