Introducing key concepts in biomedical research by a close reading of selected research articles relevant for chaplains’ spiritual care

Title of Event: Critical Incident Stress Management Courses

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a comprehensive multi-component-based crisis intervention system, designed to help emergency personnel effectively deal with the stress that comes from working in crisis situations. CISM provides early intervention skills that can enhance emotional, physical, and psychological recovery of workers exposed to critical incidents.
CISM is designed to train emergency personnel, mental health professionals, chaplains, and others on helping each other in crisis situations by providing a systematic process proven to defuse extremely abnormal emotional reactions.
Individual Crisis Intervention & Peer Support (13 CEUs) provides instruction to individuals in one-on-one situations, after group sessions have taken place, when additional assistance is required. It also highlights the defusing ability peers can bring to these situations and how to communicate more effectively in crisis situations.

Presentation 1: Changes in Advance Directive and Advance Care Planning Laws & Tools: What Every Care Provider Needs to Know. Colorado, like many states across the nation, has recently completed a major revision of its advance directive laws, regulations, and tools, including launching a Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment Program. Wyoming is also looking at this innovative advance care planning paradigm, and legislation affecting advance care planning has been reintroduced at the federal level.
