Disaster Spiritual Care Provider Orientation
Wednesday, June 19, 2019 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
In conjunction with the 2019 APC Annual Conference
The Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care (DSC) is often activated for local, mass casualty, natural, aviation, transportation, and other governmental requests. This orientation enables APC chaplains to address the DSC needs of Red Cross clients, staff and responders in the context of Red Cross operations. The National VOAD DSC Points of Consensus and DSC Guidelines will be emphasized, enabling connections to the greater faith-based disaster response.
We are grateful to announce that Disaster Spiritual Care is now an official activity of the American Red Cross nationally and locally. The launch began in May 2015 with previously trained Board Certified Chaplains. In order to serve in this capacity one will be required to become a Red Cross registered DSC volunteer.
This course is designed to provide an introduction to Disaster Spiritual Care
  • To help chaplains both prepare to use their skills in everyday common disaster scenarios and
  • To help one discern their call to being a Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care Volunteer at the local and regional level.
Partnering with national humanitarian organizations and cognate partners, our trained network of support is expanding and we continue to value the expertise and experience of Associate and Board Certified Chaplains to support our integrated and collaborative work.
If you are interested in learning more about this next step to supporting the needs of those impacted by disaster and mass casualties, register for this intensive four-hour orientation. Please note that this is a specialized position and several other courses are required for full participation with the American Red Cross.
This workshop is open to chaplains with Board certified and Associate certified status in ACPE, APC, CASC/ACSS, CPSP, ICPC, NACC, NAJC or NAVAC.
The course is free, but pre-registration is required.
