A Message from APC President
by Martha H. Rucker BCC

As a new year begins in the Association of Professional Chaplains and I begin my time as your President, I am both humbled and honored to serve alongside each of you.  The work we do every day, no matter where we find ourselves in service, we are in service with one another.  We stand with one another as we represent our profession and the Association.  Our past presidents, the board, and the over 5,500 members of this Association continue to work to serve the needs of our members and for the betterment of profession and the work of the Association.

This time of year often provides opportunity to reflect upon where we have been and to also look toward the future.  Last year, at this time, your Board developed our new Strategic Plan for 2017-2019. We are making strides in... Read More

Message of Thanksgiving
by Rev. Dr. Jeffery T. Garland DMin Ed.S BCC

When I was asked if I would like to write the message of Thanksgiving for the November issue of APC, I was honored. As I began to contemplate our traditional family and friends gathering around the table, reality set in very quickly. The first of many Atlantic tropical and subtropical storms had left their destructions. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Jose had also left trails of deaths, properties destroyed, and a loss of hope.

Just when things appeared to get only worse, a little light of hope could be seen. For me, that little light was a story of a man known as James Franklin McIngvale. Mr. McIngvale, also known as “Mattress Mack,” is a furniture owner in Houston, TX. He took in hundreds of displaced families and first responders and... Read More

BCC Specialization in Military Chaplaincy Debuts in March 2018
by Dr. Jan McCormack BCC

The APC has a new specialization -- Military Chaplaincy! The BCC in Military Chaplaincy (BCC-MC), certifies its holders as advanced professionals providing ministry in senior and supervisory settings. Among other criteria, chaplains seeking the BCC-MC must first have completed at least four units of CPE, be a certified APC BCC, and be a member of the Military Chaplains Association (MCA). Applications and criteria for certification as a BCC-MC will be available on the APC website, www.professionalchaplains.org, beginning March 1, 2018.

This partnership initiative between APC and the MCA reflects a new cooperative spirit to better serve chaplaincy within all aspects of military service. Until now, there has been no professional chaplaincy credential specifically for military chaplains. Nor was there any non-faith-based nor non-governmental professional accountability for military chaplains...Read More
