2019 APC Award Winners

APC Forum, July 2019, Vol. 20 No. 4

During the 2019 Conference, attendees had the opportunity to congratulate four APC members on receiving prestigious awards for their contributions to chaplaincy and to APC.

At the APC Membership Recognition Luncheon, APC recognized and thanked George Fitchett DMin Phd BCC on receiving the 2019 Oskar Pfister Award.  The Oskar Pfister Award was established in 1983 in memory of Oskar Pfister, an ordained minister who studied and used psychoanalytic principles in his work. The award is funded by the Association of Professional Chaplains in collaboration with the Harding Foundation and honor those individuals that exhibit outstanding contributions in the field of psychiatry and religion.  George received his official award in May during the American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting where he delivered his lecture “Evidence-Based Spiritual Care: A New Paradigm for Health Care Chaplaincy” to those in attendance.

On Saturday evening, members attending the Grand Banquet were able to recognize three additional APC members for their own contributions to chaplaincy.

Dr. Jacob George BCC was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by APC for his work as a chaplain, as an educator and a volunteer in Sri Lanka to those impacted by the 2005 Tsunami.

Rev. Valerie Storms MDiv BCC was bestowed with the Anton Boisen Professional Service Award for her contributions to APC.  Her work in a variety of positions including State Representative to Florida, work on the Professional Ethics Commission, Chair of the Membership Services Council and President of the association made her more than deserving of this award.

Rev. Al Miles MDiv BCC also received a 2019 Anton Boisen Professional Service Award for his many contributions to the profession.  His work at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii has been immense as has his written works on the topics of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.  He has also served in several volunteer leadership positions within APC including as State Representative Coordinator and member of the Membership Services Committee.

We hope that all of our members will join us in congratulating each of these award winners.
