APC Forum, July 2019, Vol. 21 No. 4

From June 20-23rd the members and friends of APC met in Orlando, Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the 2019 APC Annual Conference.  The conference them was “Outside The Lines: Expanding Boundaries” and that theme was lived throughout the conference.

Plenary Speakers: The line up of Plenary speakers included Dr. M. Jan Holton MDiv PhD, Dr. Christina Puchalski, Greg M Epstein, Jason Callahan BCC and Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes.  Each of these amazing presentations pushed our attendees to open their minds to new ideas and approaches to thinking.  Attendees were challenged with how they think, how they approach others and how to evolve their current perceptions of the world around them.  It was often inspiring and rewarding.

Workshops & PDI’s:  This year’s conference included over 40 workshops and 20 Professional Development Intensive classes to help our attendees stay informed on new research and trends in chaplaincy while also providing them with tools and approaches to enrich their profession.

Poster Presentations: Changing things up for 2019, APC welcomed many poster presentations from the Transforming Chaplaincy programs, where fellows were able to share their research projects, receive important feedback and spark interest in new developments in chaplaincy and spiritual care.  These poster presentations were joined by additional research posters presentations from leaders in the field.  The posters were robust, diverse and engaging.

Charity: The Conference Planning Committee selected Give Kids the World Village as the annual local charity for this year’s conference.  In total those in attendance raised over $2,000 for the organization through cash and online donations.  The donation page is still active so if you would like to learn more about the organization and/or donate, please see the Conference Charity article in this issue!

Sponsors: This year’s conference could not have been a success without the work of our Conference Planning Committee and our Conference Sponsors.  APC would like to thank the generosity of those sponsors one final time.

Photos: There were many wonderful moments at this year’s conference that we attempted to capture with photos, video and more.  Nothing was more significant than the Grand Banquet ceremony where Associate, Board and Advanced Certified Chaplains were able to walk across the stage to receive their certificate.  If you were one of those individuals, you are now able to download your photograph from the APC website HERE.
