A Message from APC President...

APC has enjoyed another good year…Of course this success didn’t “just happen” – it was created and chiseled into existence by the hard and creative work of many…  Please join me in celebrating and thanking…

  • The 352 chaplains that completed their BCC this year!
  • The more than 700 members that served on 375 certification committees
  • The 12 members of the BCCI Certification Commission
  • The 13 members of APC’s five governing committees and the 36 members of our seven operational committees.
  • More than 50 members who serve on task forces, commissions, and coalitions to build and maintain the practical practice structures to ensure APC’s perspective shapes the profession
  • Our professional peers – AAPC, ACPE, CASC/ACSS, NACC, & NAJC – with whom we share a vision for the future where professional chaplains are educated, trained, formed, and integrated difference-makers in all their places of service wherever that is in the world
  • The 13 Corporate Partners, 19 Conference Supporters, and over 160 donors who generously give to ensure the growth and advancement of APC’s mission
  • Your APC Board of Directors that gives a lot of time in strategic management of APC
  • The 126 presenters of the APC Symposium, and the annual conference workshops, intensives, and webinars
  • The 53 members serving as APC State Representatives, State Continuing Education Chairs, and Area Certification Chairs
  • The members who took on the role of “mentor” with candidates in the certification process, and with peers through peer reviews; also, for the informal mentoring that occurs peer to peer within and outside of our professional chaplaincy teams.
  • The ten members of our APC professional office staff who ensure fiscal accountability, mission fidelity, and operational efficiency – they are an exceptional team

Each of these operational facets have but one purpose:  To advance the APC mission, specifically, “The Association of Professional Chaplains® promotes quality chaplaincy care through advocacy, education, professional standards and service to its members.”  We do this to ensure that the 5,482 APC members are prepared, ready and supported to serve often in quiet ways in challenging places with people often facing life’s most pressing circumstances and perplexing questions.  So, Thank You for answering with your service the call life has placed on you.  Thank you for doing hard and heavy work in stressful places at every hour of the day and night with those for whom you may be their only tether to hope.  May this season grant you a deeper sense of the difference you have made and are making in this world.
 

As we look into 2019 will you join with the Board in an organizational SWOT analysis in preparation for our next strategic plan?  What are the Strengths and Weaknesses you see in APC?  As you look at the environment in which APC and professional chaplaincy operates, what Opportunities and Threats do you see?  Share your insights at President@professionalchaplains.org.  During the first quarter of 2019 the Board of Directors will be calling all the APC State Representatives to take a pulse check.  We look forward to learning what is going on in your places of service and using these as we envision the future.
