Rev. Martha H. Rucker MDiv BCC

The Reverend Martha H. Rucker is a staff chaplain for Saint Thomas Health, Clarksville, TN. Endorsed by the Disciples of Christ, she has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 2006. She is a graduate of Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY. She has served APC® as board member, Personnel Committee chair, Finance Committee member and Professional Ethics Committee chair.

The Reverend Ronald C. Oliver serves as the system vice president, Mission and Outreach, of Norton Healthcare, Louisville, KY. He is endorsed by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 1996. He holds doctor of philosophy, master of theology and master of divinity degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the MBA from Bellarmine University.  He has served APC as a board member, Quality in Chaplaincy Care Committee member, Education Committee board liaison and 2010 Conference Plenary Speakers chair. In addition, he currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville, and formerly served on the Wayne E. Oates Institute Board of Directors. He is a former member of the American Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care Administration Team and has been deployed on several large-scale disasters.

Joseph Perez MDiv BCC is the vice president of pastoral services at Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen, TX. He previously served on the BCCI® Commission on Certification as coordinator of education and development. In addition, he has served on the Membership Committee as state membership chairs coordinator, and as South Texas state membership chair. Endorsed by the Texas Baptist church, he has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 1998.

Jon A. Overvold, MDiv, BCC is the Corporate Director of System Chaplaincy Services for Northwell Health (formerly North Shore LIJ Health System).  Northwell Health consists of 21 hospitals and 61,000 employees providing healthcare in New York City and the larger New York metropolitan area. Jon has served as New York State Representative for the APC and also as chair of the APC Quality Commission. He became a board certified chaplain in 1999 and has 25 years experience in healthcare chaplaincy. Jon holds a BA in history from Pacific Lutheran University, and received his master of divinity from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jon is ordained and endorsed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.BCCI Representative

Jana Troutman-Miller MA BCC serves as chaplain and Episcopal priest at Saint John’s on the Lake, a retirement community in Milwaukee, WI. Prior to Saint John’s, she had several years of experience in the chaplaincy areas of acute care, mom/babies, mental health and addictions, and long-term care. BCCI® board certified since 2003, she has served as secretary of the Wisconsin Chaplaincy Association, APC® Wisconsin state advocacy chair, and Integrated Standards of Practice Task Force co-chair.

Rev. Joby Brown is a Staff Chaplain with Ascension Wisconsin, currently serving at Wheaton Franciscan Elmbrook Memorial and Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee hospitals in Milwaukee. He received his Master of Divinity Degree (MDiv) from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Religion and Philosophy from Eureka College in Eureka, IL. He is endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and has chaplaincy experience in acute care, memory care, long-term care, geriatrics, and behavior health. Prior to joining the APC Board of Directors, he served as a member of the Long-Term Care Standards of Practice Revision Work Group, and has served on local peer review and certification committees.

Rabbi Jodie Futornick MA BCC


Rabbi Jodie Futornick, MA, BCC is an acute care staff chaplain at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle Washington. After many years of working primarily with oncology patients, she has now switched her main focus to cardiac care. She has been a BCCI certified chaplain since 2007. She received her Rabbinical Ordination and Master of Arts from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1989, and an additional MA in Bioethics from Loyola of Chicago in 2011. She is currently in the final stage of completing a Doctor of Bioethics degree (D.Be.), also from Loyola. She is endorsed by the Rabbinical Assembly of Judaism’s Conservative movement. Jodie has served APC in a variety of volunteer roles, including State Representative and Continuing Education Chairs in IL, Certification Chair of Area 5, Education Committee, Chair of 2012 annual conference Workshop Committee, Membership Committee, and most recently, chair of the Bioethics Standards of Practice Task Force.

Rev. Karriker is the Director of Chaplaincy Services at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, NY. She holds a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  Karriker is BCCI board certified since 2001 and is ordained and endorsed through the United Church of Christ. She has been very active with APC serving in many roles, as a Development Committee member, Chair of 2010 Annual APC Conference, Area 1 Certification chair, facilitator of the Pediatric Special Interest Group, and Membership Committee chair.

Rev. Dr. Jeffery T. Garland DMin EdS BCC

The Reverend  Jeffery T. Garland DMin EdS BCC has been an active member with APC® since 1997 and a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 2002. He is employed as a chaplain with the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center in West Orange, NJ. Endorsed by The American Baptist Churches, USA, Garland is the assistant to the pastor at Berean Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. He received his doctorate of ministry from Drew University School of Theology, his master of divinity from New York Theological Seminary and his education specialist in marriage and family therapy degree from Seton Hall University. He has served APC in the roles of Membership Services Council member, Multi-Cultural Multi-Ethnic Committee Chair, APC Conference Planning Committee Spiritual Needs chair and Nominating Committee member.

Board liaison to National Coalition of Hospice and Palliative Care

Mark LaRocca-Pitts has served as a professional chaplain for 17 years and currently serves as a hospice chaplain with Crossroads Hospice of Atlanta. In addition, he is an adjunct professor at Candler School of Theology in Pastoral Care. He has been BCCI® board certified since 2006 and is endorsed by the United Methodist Church. He has served in various leadership roles with APC®, including state representative of Georgia, chair of the History Committee, chair of the Communications Committee, on the Quality in Chaplaincy Care Committee, and on the task forces for Standards of Practice in Acute Care, in Long-Term Care, and the Integrated Standards of Practice. Mark received his MA in Religious Studies from Indiana University, his MDiv from Harvard Divinity School, and his PhD from Harvard University. He is past president of the Georgia Society for Healthcare Chaplains and founder/host of Death Café Atlanta.

The Reverend Jeffery N. Murphy MDiv BCC has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 1993. He has served as a staff chaplain at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS since 2003. Endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he holds a bachelor of arts from William Carey College and a master of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the board, Murphy served APC as state representative for Mississippi, the national coordinator of state representatives and BCCI certification chair for Area 8. He was also the founding president of the Mississippi Chaplains Association.

Rev. Inetta Reddell has been a Board Certified Chaplain since 2013 and is endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She has served on several boards including the Board of Directors for Kairos International Prison and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors at Deerfield, Riverwood, and Bannockburn (DBR) as well as served on their Executive Board of Directors. Inetta has a MDiv and MBE (Masters of Bioethics) and Masters of Christian Studies with emphasis in Pastoral Counseling and was ordained at Second Baptist Church. She is currently working at UMC (University Medical Center) Health System in Lubbock, TX since 2013. Inetta also currently serves as senior pastor for First United Methodist Church of Sudan. Prior to serving on the APC Board of Directors, Inetta was APCState Representative for North Texas State.

The Reverend John Simon has been a BCCI® board certified chaplain since 2001. Endorsed by the Progressive National Baptist Convention, he is the director of Integrated Patient Experience & Chaplaincy at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. In addition, he serves as senior pastor of The Historic Second Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie. He earned his master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School and master of theological studies degree with distinction from the Iliff School of Theology. He is a board certified New York State Department of Corrections Protestant Chaplain.

Patricia F. Appelhans comes to APC® with over 30 years of association management experience including 20 years as an executive director.  In her prior positions, Appelhans was responsible for all aspects of non profit and association management, including financial, legal, fund development, certification, personnel, membership development and retention, program development, corporate planning and strategic planning. In addition, she has been a dedicated volunteer in her personal and professional communities, including within her church as coordinator of a homeless shelter and as past chair of the board of the Association Forum of Chicagoland.
