A Message from APC President
by Martha H. Rucker MDiv BCC CT

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to each and every one of you!  As we are all undoubtedly consumed with work and projects and loved ones during this busy festive time of year, I will keep my remarks short.  In the midst of all the savory and sweet snacks, pretty lights and decorations, I would like to encourage each of you to take moments during the course of your day to find your calm center and reflect on what the season and this year has meant to you.  Every year this beautiful and difficult world we live in seems to get a little smaller and, every year the time we share seems to go a little faster.  Appreciate your accomplishments, find forgiveness for those that have wronged you, and bring comfort to those that you can.

2017 has been an incredible journey for the APC; the National Office went through a strategic realignment...Read More

The Empty Stocking Syndrome
by Rev. John H. Whitacre

The Empty Stocking Syndrome is written for all of us who’ve lost a family member or friend or partner and pets throughout this year. This first holiday season's aloneness and emptiness without them being here is hard to manage. Relationships are never lost they are just transfigured. As I sat remembering the loss of my best man at my wedding this year my heart was moved to write the following words which I hope will be helpful to all of us who have stepped out on “this road less traveled.”

As we enter this holiday season we have many favorite songs and stories that resonate in our hearts. For the most part we all know “chestnuts roasting on an open fire... Read More

Childhood
a poem by David Ro MDiv BCC

It always happens this way:
when I go to get the stool
for my son so that he can
reach the light
switch
he now tiptoes
and the light
goes on.

It must be the way of childhood
or sleep deprivation
that the change
comes all at once

someone adding 3 inches
of bone
matter
in the night

someone slipping
a lump
in the throat
before words

someone now helping
me with a stool

helping me tiptoe back
to childhood
before the light
turns off.
