Overview
VandeCreek and associates conducted research on the efficacy of clergy in the hospital setting. Were pastors effective, were their visits appropriate, was there patient satisfaction and of what did this consist? There has been little emphasis placed on collaboration with clergy in the Journal of Pastoral Care and Caregivers since the 90's.

This workshop will help chaplains analyze their own milieu to see if they can enhance best practices by including chaplains more intentionally in their care ministry. The workshop comes out of a Doctorate of Ministry project at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The ministry setting is rural towns on the prairie coming to a regional hospital. Ten semi structured Interviews were conducted by the doctoral candidate and a survey via Survey Monkey of one hundred and twenty five pastors was used to compare how representative the interview candidates were of the larger survey.
A review of the literature followed and will be used in the workshop
Learning Objectives
• Understand the needs of clergy when they visit a regional hospital
• Develop strategies to use clergy more effectively in meeting spiritual needs of patients and their families
• Identify cultural variables that effect pastoral ministry in the acute care setting

Presenter
David E. Wolfe MA MDiv BCC

David Wolfe is a Recorded Friends “Quaker” Minister with APC Board Certification in 1990. He has served as Director of Chaplaincy in three medical centers from a single person to a multi-staff department in Virginia and Kansas and on the trauma team of a level one teaching hospital. In all four institutions part of his duties was liaison to clergy including starting and supporting ministerial associations. His wife, Linda, is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and both lived and studied in Qom, Iran with the Mennonite Central Committee in “07 & 08.”
How It Works
To participate, all that is needed is a computer with Internet access and speakers, as the presentation audio and visuals are "webcast." Our webinars are priced per computer terminal, not per participant. That means you can invite as many colleagues to join you as can fit in your conference room or cluster around your computer. As a participant, you will be able to interact with the presenters, who will ask questions of the audience and answer questions posed by participants.

System Requirements
• As a best practice, we highly recommend an Ethernet connected computer for best connectivity and listening experience. You may experience some buffering of audio on lower bandwidth wireless connections.
• Internet Browsers:  Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or later, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Windows Edge browser.
• Stable Internet Connection, DSL or above:  100kbps for video transmission, 300kbps for screen sharing and remote control, 500kbps to ensure fluidity of all services.
• Operating System: Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Mac OS X v10.4 or higher, Linux, Solaris.
• Adobe Flash Player 13.0 or newer: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
• Computer Speakers

The link below will test your system to make sure you are running the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player and to make sure it is not being blocked by your network.

The "Connectivity" line should have a green check mark. If it does not please contact your network administrator to allow TelSpanWeb access to port RTMPE 1935. This will allow your Adobe Flash Player to run properly through TelSpanWeb. "Application Sharing" applies only to presenters, so if you see a red "X," that's OK.
If you have any further questions or concerns, or if you do not have computer speakers, please contact APC at info@professionalchaplains.org for assistance.
